7 Ways to Treat Yourself for Self-Care Day
Self-care is arguably the most vital cornerstone of health, and there are plenty of reasons why you should be setting aside time to care for yourself and not letting your needs go unattended or ignoring them altogether. Practicing a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, reduce stress, boost your confidence, improve your energy levels, and benefit your life in a number of other ways.
July 24th is International Self-Care Day, and it’s a day not just for recognizing the importance of self-care amidst all your other responsibilities and the hectic pace of life but being sure to set aside some time to have a break from it all and treat yourself. But we realize that despite the importance of self-care, a busy schedule can make it tough to find the time. Even if you do have the time, you might not know what to do with it since society puts so much pressure on us to find a way to be productive rather than just unwind and enjoy the moment we are in. If you need some inspiration for how to show yourself a little love, check out our ideas below!
Take a soothing bubble bath
If you’re lucky enough to have a roomy tub in your bathroom, creating a DIY spa experience by pouring in your favorite bubble bath formula and maybe even mixing in some soothing bath salts or soak might be just what you need. Sit back, relax, and let your skin soak up all the goodness from the bath products as you enjoy the cozy, comfortable, and calming experience. Not a fan of bubbles? Swap out the bubble bath formula for one of your favorite bath bombs or aromatherapy oils.
Grab your favorite coffee
Sometimes, practicing self-care is as easy as grabbing your favorite coffee from your favorite place and taking a few moments to enjoy it and really savor each sip. Since your purchase is in the interest of self-care, go ahead and on splurge – get another pump of flavored syrup, top your drink with whipped cream, or do whatever you feel would make it feel a little fancier!
Try a meditation session
Although meditation is traditionally thought of as a very lengthy exercise, even a quick session that lasts five or ten minutes can do wonders for your mental health and help you refocus, refresh, and relieve whatever stress you’re feeling. If you’ve never tried meditating before, there are a wide variety of apps you can download to your smartphone that will guide you through it.
Light a scented candle
Self-care can be as simple as just lighting a few of your favorite scented candles to change up the vibe of a room you’re in, and you might be surprised just how much a more pleasant scent can help you feel less stressed. Calming florals like jasmine and lavender are great choices for those moments where you feel overwhelmed, while citrus scents are great for the times you feel tired and need a little energy boost.
Get a massage
In addition to a trip to the spa and a little bit of retail therapy, getting a massage has to be one of the more quintessential self-care activities, but you don’t have to visit a spa or massage parlor to experience the benefits. You can try giving yourself a scalp massage or facial massage at home, and you don’t even need any pro-level tools to do so.
When performing a facial massage, use a moisturizer that won't clog your pores. Choose one like Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix that is soothing and has skin repair benefits.
Order a tasty treat
Sometimes treating yourself with, well, a treat is exactly what you need. Don’t worry about the calories or anything (unless you have an allergy), just order whatever looks like the most delicious item on the menu and savor every bite.
Splurge on some skincare
There’s nothing wrong with a little retail therapy every now and then, and why not grab some products that’ll care for your skin every time you apply them and give you more confidence every day. Shop our collections and treat your skin to the best!
