Foundation Tips for Dry Skin
Trying to camouflage dry skin with makeup tends to just make it worse. Cakey foundations and powders can get in between flaky patches and accentuate the issue really quick. To get the healthy glow you are going for use the following steps!
Here are our top tips for your foundation when you have dry skin.
1. Exfoliate
Exfoliating year round is a great way to avoid getting flaky skin. There are many ways to exfoliate, so figure out what is best for your skin type. Gentle chemical exfoliants, AHAs and Glycolic Acid for example, are great for most people.
Exfoliating works into the layers of the skin to dissolve debris and bacteria that can cause acne and a buildup of dead skin cells. When there are too many dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, it can slough off in chunks, aka flaky dry skin. By maintaining good exfoliating habits weekly, you can keep your skin smooth and create an even canvas for makeup. Exfoliating also helps your skincare products work deeper into the skin so you can take full advantage of your routine.
2. Moisturize & Nourish
It comes at no surprise that moisturizing makes the list! How you moisturize is also important for dry skin. Since dry skin is pretty sensitive, use moisturizers and hydrators that are non-toxic and gentle.
Some moisturizers don't do much besides sitting on top of the skin to keep moisture locked in. This works great sometimes, think Vaseline for your lips, but long term this can have major side effects. Your skin needs to breathe and have access to oxygen to be healthy and vibrant.
Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix is a great choice for dry and chronically dry skin. Not only does Hydro-Matrix attract moisture to the skin with HLA and PCA, it also maintains breathability so your pores aren't blocked. It is hypoallergenic, meaning it is safe for extremely sensitive skin, and has natural skin-loving ingredients.
3. Choose the right foundation
When you have dry skin, your moisture barrier is compromised. This makes your skin more susceptible to irritation and inflammation. It is important to choose the right products to use on your skin to avoid sensitivities, especially products that are on your face all day long like foundation.
Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation has an aloe vera base which calms sensitive skin. Oxygenating Foundation is the only makeup product medical professionals use immediately after procedures. By being breathable and containing our patented Ceravitae®, your skin will have optimal oxygen levels and hydration. Once set, you won't be able to tell you are wearing makeup at all.
4. Apply with dabbing motion
Using a clean sponge, brush, or fingertips, gently dab the foundation onto the skin. Tapping motions are the best way to achieve great coverage in the areas you need it. This method works well on compromised skin that is uneven or dry.
If you want even more hydration, you can mix Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix with Oxygenating Foundation for a tinted moisturizer. Dabbing the skin with a damp sponge after applying your makeup is also a great way to seal in moisture while blending the makeup evenly.
5. Avoid powders
Powder makeup can sink into fine lines, wrinkles, and dry patches, accentuating the problem. This can make the skin appear drier and older. Instead of powder, tap the skin with a damp sponge to create a soft blend. You can use cream or liquid blushes and contour for color. A great way to add depth is to use a foundation shade that is 2 shades darker in your color spectrum for contour.
6. Use hydrating mists
Throughout the day you can mist your face with hydrating mists to keep your skin hydrated. The Hyaluronic Acid in Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix will attract the mist to the skin and help maintain moisture levels that way.
