How to Apply Sunscreen WITH Foundation For Lasting Protection & Coverage
If you're on the beauty side of Tik Tok or Instagram you're probably used to being inundated with estheticians and dermatologists explaining the importance of sunscreen.
And they have good reason to. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, an estimated 90 percent of skin aging is caused by the sun. However, those who use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher daily show 24 percent less skin aging than those who do not use sunscreen daily.
Skin professionals recommend wearing sunscreen daily. That's right. . . EVERY single day. So how do we do this without ruining our makeup??
Lucky for you, we have some tips to keep your skin safe from those harmful UV rays while maintaining a fresh foundation glow. Best of all, these tips will keep your makeup where it should be. . . in place.
TIP #1: SKINCARE FIRST
Your skincare routine is an important step to any makeup look. The first thing touching your skin should be your skincare so you can fully experience the ingredient benefits. Keep up on your exfoliation routine for a makeup look that glows!
After a gentle cleanse, tone your skin with your favorite toner, apply any serums you want, then finish it off with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix is a great choice as a moisturizer that acts like a primer. Hydro-Matrix plumps the skin with hyaluronic acid while providing skin repair benefits, keeping your skin moisturized and protected all day. Once it sets, Hydro-Matrix acts like the perfect primer for any makeup application.
TIP #2: SUNSCREEN SECOND
After you have nourished your skin with skin-loving ingredients and have a good moisturized base, apply your sunscreen. There are many sunscreens to choose from, so do your research and find the best one for your skin type! Make sure it is ocean friendly and reef safe, keeping toxic chemicals out of our oceans and water supply.
Make sure your sunscreen has fully absorbed or set onto the skin before your makeup application, otherwise your foundation will be slipping and sliding into next week!
TIP #3: TAP TAP TAP THAT FOUNDATION
The kind of foundation you use is crucial in achieving coverage longevity. Use foundations that aren't based from oils or have a plethora of preservatives. For foundation that lasts, choose Oxygenetix Oxygenating or Acne Control Foundation. Oxygenetix Foundations have stable formulations that are water and transfer resistant. With a satin matte finish, Oxygenetix Foundations wear great on top of sunscreens and other skincare. They contain 17% reef safe titanium dioxide to support your sunscreen in UV protection.
Once your sunscreen has set, use clean fingertips or a foundation brush or sponge to lightly tap foundation onto your skin. Allow 30 seconds to a minute in between layers to achieve more coverage as desired.

PRO TIP: SET WITH A DAMP SPONGE
With Oxygenetix Foundations, there's no need for harmful powders! You can use a damp sponge to tap your foundation onto your skin, blending any streaks you may have missed and setting the foundation.
TIP # 4: REAPPLY BEFORE YOU FRY
Keep your sunscreen and Oxygenetix handy next time you plan on spending a day in the sun!
Savanna, the Dallas Aesthetician says, "Set a reminder on your phone or Apple Watch to tell you to reapply your spf every 2 hours".
There are a few ways you can reapply your sunscreen over your makeup.
Use powder sunscreen or spray sunscreen and lightly spritz your face every 2 hours, especially when you're enjoying those sun rays at the pool or beach!
You can also apply your sunscreen again over your foundation using a sponge. This works great with Oxygenetix Foundation, and you can apply a bit more foundation over the top once the sunscreen has set!
