The Most Effective Ways to Get Makeup Stains Out of Your Clothes

Picture this: you're getting ready for a big night out, carefully applying your favorite makeup to perfection. But just as you're about to slip into your fabulous outfit, disaster strikes – a mascara mishap leaves an unsightly stain on your clothes. Panic sets in as you contemplate the fate of your favorite garment. Fear not, beauty mavens, for in the realm of makeup stains, there are heroes waiting in the wings.

Join us on a journey through the art of stain removal as we unveil the secrets to salvaging your wardrobe from the clutches of makeup mayhem. From lipstick smudges to foundation fiascos, we've got the tips, tricks, and DIY remedies to ensure your clothes stay as flawless as your makeup game.

Removing makeup stains from clothes can be a bit tricky depending on the type of makeup and the fabric of the clothing.

Some general tips to help you get rid of those stains

Act Quickly

The sooner you treat the stain, the better your chances of removing it completely.

Blot, Don’t Rub

Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot the stain gently. Rubbing can spread the stain and make it more difficult to remove.

Pre-treat

Apply a small amount of stain remover or liquid detergent directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before washing.

Check the Fabric Care Label

Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for washing and treating the fabric.

Use Cold Water

When rinsing the stain, use cold water instead of hot water. Hot water can set the stain, making it more difficult to remove.

Stain Removers

You can use stain removers specifically designed for makeup stains. Apply them according to the instructions on the product.

Remember, it's always a good idea to test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it doesn't cause any damage.

Launder as Usual

Once you've treated the stain, wash the garment as you normally would.

Be cautious when cleaning delicate fabrics like silks as it may be best to dry clean instead of trying to get the stain out yourself.

Important: Check to make sure the stain is completely gone before drying, as heat can set remaining stains. Instead of putting it in the dryer, hang it to dry before treating the stain again.

Repeat if Necessary

For stubborn stains, you may need to repeat the treatment process or try a different method.

Tips for specific makeup products

Mascaras & Gels

Wait for mascaras and gels to dry and harden before brushing them off with a spoolie. A clean spoolie is a great tool for lightly brushing the product off and it will be gentle with your clothes as long as you are!

Lipsticks, Pencils, Waxy Makeup

For makeup that has a waxy texture like lipsticks and pencils, you can use rubbing alcohols to help them lift off fabrics. Using a cotton ball or paper towel with rubbing alcohol on it, gently dab the stain.

Liquid Foundations & Concealers

For liquid foundations and concealers, especially those that are oil based, you can try using dish soap. Apply a small amount directly to the stain and gently work it into the area, let it sit for up to 20 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

Powder Makeup and Eyeshadows

When powder products like setting powder, blush, highlighters and eyeshadows get onto your clothes tiny particles get into the fabric. Before treating the area use a hairdryer on the cool setting or blow air with your mouth to remove excess powder. You can also use a makeup brush and gently flick away the powder. For the powder that has settled into the fabric, use laundry detergent or dish soap to spot clean the area before putting your clothes in the washer.

Next time makeup and clothes collide, remember: stains are just tiny hurdles on the runway of life! With these tricks up your sleeve, your wardrobe is unstoppable. So, go ahead, embrace the mess, because with a sprinkle of determination and a dab of know-how, you'll always strut your stuff stain-free! Here's to flawless fashion adventures ahead!
